CULTURE AND HERITAGE ASSESSMENTS

Tracey Skene and Maree Waugh are members of the Wonnarua Nation who are able to conduct culture and heritage assessments. Culture and heritage assessments are often required by developers as part of environmental assessments for exploration and development, such as a Review of Environmental Factors or applications to the Department of Planning.

It is important to the Wonnarua people that Wonnarua members are able to make assessments of traditional Wonnarua land. There is often a need for the Koori assessors to grant permission of a consent to destroy artifacts for developments. The Wonnarua people would prefer it is one of their own people who makes this decision, rather than a descendant of another tribe.

Clients of the Wonnarua assessors include Coal and Allied, Xstrata, Centennial Coal and Rio Tinto.
